Obituary

HOLDEN-Ruth A. (Plitnick) Powers, 84, of 86 Glenwood Street, formerly of Zellwood, FL and Paxton, MA died Wednesday, November 30th in University Commons. Her husband of 62 years; Robert F. Powers, Jr. died October 21st. She leaves 2 sons; William R. and his wife Joanne C. Powers of Paxton and Robert F. Powers, Jr. of Illinois, 2 daughters; Cynthia M. wife of Thomas R. Flaherty with whom she lived and Pamela E. Flood of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, 9 grandchildren; Jonathan, Jason, Daniel, Sam, Benjamin, Tara, Ryan, Susan and Bill, 4 great grandchildren; Jakob, Emilie, Emilia and Jordan, many nephews and nieces. 2 sisters; Beatrice Mattrick and Mary Godek predeceased her.

She was born in Worcester, the daughter of William J. and Vincenta (Shipalouskas) Plitnick. She graduated from Commerce High School and Girls Trade School where she studied hairdressing. Mrs. Powers was employed by State Mutual Life Assurance Company as an insurance supervisor for several years, until retiring in 1972. Previously, she made wedding cakes on the professional level. She was a member of St. Columba Church of Paxton, St. Francis of Assisi Church in Apopka, FL, a member of the American Legion Post #206 and a member of Ace Acres Camp Ground in South Berwick, ME. She enjoyed square dancing, bingo, gardening, cooking and baking.

The funeral is Tuesday, December 6th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Avenue, Paxton. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park. Calling hours are Monday, December 5th from 6:00 until 9:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA, 01701.
