Gilbert J. Van Rotz, 76, of Dora Street, Providence, died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Rhode Island Hospital.
Born in St. Louis County, Missouri, he was a son of the late Mae Hopkins and her husband, Harold Hopkins and the late Valley Van Rotz. He had lived in Rhode Island for 54 years.
He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Charles S. Sperry during the Vietnam Era.
Gilbert had worked at Garelick Farms for many years before retiring. During retirement he worked as a stockman at Walmart in Cranston.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Comella) Van Rotz of Johnston, his son, Mark L. Van Rotz and his wife, Robin of North Providence, his brother, Richard Van Rotz and his wife Nancy of Nebraska, half brother Dwayne Hopkins and his wife Danita of Florida and half sister Ruth Ann Brooks and her husband Darryl of Florida.
His funeral service will be held Thursday at 9:30 am in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial with military honors will follow in RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter.
