Obituary

Candace Erickson Briggs, 69, of Mason’s Island, died peacefully and unexpectedly, at home, on September 16th, 2018. Her Home was filled with her cherished family and friends.

She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Bailey Case Briggs of New York City and Mason’s Island.

Candy also leaves behind her brother, Stephen Erickson and his wife Suzie, her two nieces Kelly Schlereth Larson and Chelsea Schlereth Parrilla (and families), stepsons Goffe Briggs and Mark Briggs (and families), and the friends chosen as family, Peter and Sheila Sollinger, and their devoted sons, Christopher, Jason, Ryan and Taylor (and families).

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Goffe Briggs, her sister Linda Erickson Schlereth and her parents E. Richard and Audrey Fleming Erickson.

Candy was born on February 14th, 1949 in Orange, New Jersey. She grew up in Short Hills, New Jersey and was a graduate of Millburn High School and Cazanovia College in Cazanovia, New York.

She moved to Connecticut after college and soon married Peter and moved to Mason’s Island. She lived on the Island for over 40 years.

Candy’s love of animals and children was only surpassed by her love and devotion to Peter and Bailey, her tight knit family and numerous friends. She was a long time supporter of Child and Family, a past president of the Mystic Garden Club and deeply involved with the Mason’s Island Yacht Club Junior’s programs. Candy’s numerous contributions to the community are too many to mention.

Candy, Peter and Bailey loved seeing the world with family and friends. Their annual trips to the islands, especially St. Croix, were a highlight of their year. Italy, France, China, Russia, Alaska, to name just a few, were some of the places Candy visited over the years.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 PM at The Mystic Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Peter and Candy Briggs Fund at the Pine Point School, Stonington, CT and the Three Bunny Rabbit Rescue, Wethersfield, CT.
