Keyes, Jr. She leaves her daughters: Madeleine and her husband Douglas Parry of West Chester, PA, Margaret Keyes Cogger and her husband Douglas of Salem, MA and Mary Keyes of Medford, MA and her son Frederick A. Keyes III of Irving, TX. She also leaves her grandchildren Ethan Parry and Emily Parry of Philadelphia.
She is survived by her sister Ann (Fulton) Cote’ of Winchester, MA. She is predeceased by her parents David H. and Agnes (Sullivan) Fulton, and her siblings David, Jr., Robert and his wife Mary, Agnes, Paul and James; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Fulton of Burlington, MA, Anne Fulton of Washington, DC and Frances Keyes of Hull, MA.
Margaret was born in Somerville, MA and lived in Belmont, MA. She summered with her family in Hull, MA where she fell in love with the ocean, having her last swim there in 2016. She also spent many happy summers with her family at Lake Champlain in Essex, NY.
A graduate of Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in 1941, majoring in English at Barat College in 1945, Margaret was very conscious of the profound influence the Religious of the Sacred Heart had on her faith and her mind.
Margaret and Fred were married on April 15, 1950, thus began a life of raising 4 children and sharing a keen interest in almost anything performed on stage, especially opera. They enjoyed watching professional tennis and hockey, and traveling to Ireland. As Fred’s career took him from CT to NJ to MN, Margaret volunteered teaching literacy to adults and continued doing so in NH, where they retired. She also volunteered for the Democratic Party wherever they lived.
After Fred’s untimely death in 1987, she lived in Brookline, MA for 20 years. She continued to do the things she and Fred had enjoyed together, including traveling to Paris, her favorite city in the world. There is no accurate count of her trips to Ireland, but there is a clear picture of her drinking Irish coffee in Irish pubs and enjoying sessions of Irish music.
Margaret cherished her children and grandchildren and being in the midst of her extended family of nieces and nephews with good conversation and raucous laughter.
On the day before Christmas, her father went every year to the Old Corner Book Store to buy books for his children, which started her lifelong love of reading. In recent days in the twilight of life, she listened to her daughter Margaret reading poetry from her collection, and, though her speech was diminished, she occasionally joined in with great clarity.
