Thomas A. Aites, 89 years, of Brockton, died Sept. 14, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center after a period of failing health. He was the loving husband for 61 years of the late Evelyn E. (Heslop) Aites. Born in Sligo, Pa., he was a son of the late John B. and Alice C. (Burns) Aites and later adopted by the late John F. and Elva (Paup) Aites.
In 1942 he moved to Boston with his parents where he attended the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School and Boston Trade High School focusing on cabinet making. Following his wedding in 1948 he lived with his wife in Brooklyn, NY, Whitinsville MA and Boston MA until 1972 when he and his wife became residents of Brockton.
Over the years, Tom was employed as an auto mechanic at various garages in Boston and established his own service station in Bellingham, MA in 1965. He also worked as a machinist and assembler for Frank Scholtz X-Ray Corp. and RANFAC Corporation until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed stock car racing, working on cars, gardening with his wife and talking on the CB radio.
He was the father of Thomas J. Aites and his wife Victoria of Brockton and the late Yvonne Aites of Whitinsville, MA. He also leaves four grandchildren, Jennifer (Aites) Morgan, Thomas J. Aites Jr., Tyrone Aites and Timothy Aites; ten great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and is also survived by two sisters, Sally Ryback of Whitinsville, MA and Flora May Romerio of Florida.
Funeral service in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Wednesday at 11 am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-8 p.m.
