George B. Dempsey 88, of Franklin, died Wednesday September 12, 2018 at Milford Regional Medical Center, following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis J. (McGowen) Dempsey, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.
Born November 19, 1929 in Boston, a son of the late George and Agnes (Doncaster) Dempsey, he was a resident of Franklin since 1969.
He was raised and educated in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston and worked as an account executive for the former Concept Industries, a trade show exhibit supplier.
A proud American he joined the United States Marine Corps in April 1948, and served during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in April 1952.
George was devoted to his wife, family and friends. He enjoyed golfing; watching his grandchildren play sports, and was a lifelong fan of all the New England sports teams.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Duane R. Dempsey and his partner Deborah McDermott of East Falmouth, Douglas G. Dempsey and his wife Cynthia (Ravinski) Dempsey of Franklin, Lynn C. Dempsey and David L. Dempsey both of Franklin, and a brother Edgar Dempsey of Hanson.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Andrea Souza, Adam Souza and his partner Christina Kennedy, Peter Beksha, Kate Haddad and her husband Adam, Heather, Cynthia, Gwyneth Dempsey and Kelly McDermott
He was the brother of the late Velma Mckim.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Friday Sept.21st at 10AM in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Interment with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
