John Stanley Archer Sr
MILTON, NH- John Stanley Archer Sr,82 passed away
on September 4th, 2018 at St. Joseph's Nursing Home
in Portland ME after a brief illness. He was born in Mapleton ME on
January 19th, 1936, one of eleven children he was born to Roland M Archer Sr
and Oveta E (Farrar) Archer.
When John was young his family moved to Hiram ME where
He attended local schools. He started working at age nine, picking
up rocks behind a road crew. Later he started his own businesses
as well as working as a Starlite mail carrier in the 60's. Purchasing a farm
in Parsonsfield and starting a Blue Seal feeds store in his barn.
He pastored the Arundel Assembly of God four years in the 80s and loved
singing gospel music, fishing with his family but farming was his joy. Also opening
and running food pantries even into his senior years, supplying
them with his own canned goods as a master canner.
He married Gladys M Peare of Standish in 1954 and they raised six daughters
during the time they were married. In 1992 he married Mildred Wiggin and she
died two years later leaving him a widower. John married Rita Gray of Milton NH
just after retiring in 1998.
John was predeceased by his parents, Roland Sr and Oveta, brothers, Roland Jr, Thomas, David,
sister Susan Harvey, a son, John Jr, daughter, Julie, a wife Mildred Archer
Survived by his wife Rita and her children, sisters, Evelyn Cady, Sally Weeks,
Mary Lou Maddox, Sandra Cerce, two brothers, Donald and Andrew,
daughters, Pamela Foltz and husband Harry of Dawling Park FL,
Judy Brock and husband Orrin of Mayo FL, Cindy Anderson and
husband Don of Mayo FL, Lorrie Frost and husband Harvey of
Porter ME, Melissa Keen and husband Troy of Perry FL, Cheryl
Harmon and partner Jason Pitts of Porter ME, Melinda Matthews of
Yarmouth Nova Scotia from a former relationship as well as many grandchildren,
great grandchildren
and one great great grandchild.
A graveside service is planned for Sept. 22nd,11am at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in
Hiram ME. Pastor Philip Wood officiating.
