Christine Hongvan Nguyen, age 43, of Winchester, passed away on September 11, 2018 after battling stage 4 colon cancer since November 2015. She was the beloved wife of Michael Feng and loving mother of Jason and Vivian.
Born in Vietnam, she was the devoted daughter of Loc Van Nguyen and the late Huong Thi Dang and was the youngest of eight. Raised in Saigon after the war, she escaped by boat to Thailand where she lived as a refugee for a year. She arrived in the United States in 1988 as a refugee settling with her older siblings in the second floor of a triple decker in Revere.
She attended Brighton High School, graduating as the valedictorian, and then attended Boston University as a Boston Scholar. After graduating from Boston University in 1997 with degrees in biology and education, she attended Cornell University, where she earned a master's degree in food science in 2000. As a food scientist she worked at Nabisco, Nutramax, Keurig, and Welch's.
She and her husband first settled in Wakefield, MA, where their two children were born, and then moved to Winchester in 2010, where she was an active parent at both the Muraco and McCall schools.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, September 14, from 6:30- 8:00 PM. A Buddhist Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Sat., Sept. 15 at 10AM, followed by burial in Wildwood Cemetery Winchester. If desired, donations in Christine’s memory may be made to a cancer-related charity of your choice.
