Norbert R. “Bert” Davignon, age 82, passed away on Sept. 7, 2018 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born on Dec. 17, 1935 in New Bedford, MA, the only child of the late Romeo and Alice (Bicknell) Davignon. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School. Immediately following graduation, Bert joined the US Airforce in 1954, which was the beginning of a career spanning over 20 years. He served in Germany, Thailand, Greenland, New York, and Washington D.C. He served with the 56th Security Police Squadron as well as the 814th Combat Defense Squadron, and retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1975 at Westover AFB in Chicopee. He later became a security guard for Mass Mutual. Bert met his beloved wife of 53 years, Lucille (Gaudette), at the Service Club at Westover and they were married in February of 1964, eventually settling in East Springfield to raise their family. Bert leaves behind his daughter Susan Davignon (and her husband Jim Wolfgang of Blandford, MA), sons Paul (and his wife Susan of Westfield), and Brian of Chicopee, plus 5 grandsons.
