Obituary



Helena C. (DaCosta) Chaves age 81, died Saturday September 8, 2018 at the Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital. She was the wife of the late Daniel C. Chaves for 59 years. Helena was born and raised in Santa Maria, Azores a daughter of the late Esebio and Maria (Figueiredo) DaCosta. She had been a resident of Brockton for over forty years before recently moving to Bridgewater.

Helena had been a member of the housekeeping department at Good Samaritan Medical Center for many years. Previously she had worked at Stride Rite Shoe.
Her hobbies included cooking, knitting and traveling, especially back home to Portugal and cruises. She was a member of the Santa Maria Club in Providence, RI and the Holy Ghost Club in Bridgewater.

Helena will be remembered as a kind and loving lady who loved helping her church and family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Helena was the mother of Valdemar Chaves and his wife Hue of Bridgewater, Vasco Chaves and his wife Kelli of Lakeville and the late Valder Chaves and grandmother of Valdemar Chaves, Jr. and Courtney and Casey Chaves. (she had been one of 12 children).

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Friday, September 14, from 4-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral Saturday, September 15, at 9am for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10am. Burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
