Dartmouth – Lucinda (Rendeiro) Ribeiro, age 82, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully on her birthday, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at home. She was the beloved wife of Mario D. Ribeiro for whom she had been married to for 58 years. She was also the daughter of the late Manuel and Gracinda Rendeiro.
Lucinda was born in Olhao, Portugal and moved here in 1968. In 1971, she opened Ribeiro’s Goods on Rivet Street and in 1976 they opened up a second location, Casa Ribeiro on County Street. Lucinda and her husband, Mario owned several fishing vessels in New Bedford, as well as in Portugal. She loved to spend time with her family and loved to travel to Portugal every year with her husband. Lucinda was a very quiet, gentle, kind and thoughtful woman. She always took the time to care so much about others around her.
She is survived by her husband, Mario; sons, Peter Ribeiro and his wife, Isabel M. of New Bedford and Mario Ribeiro and his wife, Raquel of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Daniel, Austin, Owen, Emily and Charlotte Ribeiro; 3 nieces and 1 nephew, as well as many godchildren. She was also the sister of the late Manuel Rendeiro, Joao Rendeiro and Maria Conceicao Viana.
Lucinda’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Her Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth at 10:00 A.M. Everyone who will be attending is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will immediately follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
