Obituary

Alfredo Gabriel D’Amore passed away peacefully on September 8 surrounded by family. Alfredo was born in Ari, Abruzzo, Italy where he lived through a childhood marked by a long childhood illness and WWII. He immigrated to the United States as a young adult.
At a social dance in the North End of Boston, he met Bridget A. Campagna. Alfredo and Bridget married in 1963 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Bridget and Alfredo settled in Quincy, MA, to raise their family. He was a proud member of the Sons of Italy.
Alfredo worked at Boston University for over 25 years, due to his employment all four of his children attended and graduated from BU.

He was an avid Boston sports fan and attended Red Sox and Revolution games. He was also able to keep in touch with sports of his country of birth by following Italian soccer on TV.
In later years after his grandchildren were born, he and Bridget moved to Canton to be closer to them and saw them almost every day.
Alfredo is survived by his wife Bridget (Campagna), children Rachel D’Amore-Bonish and Jeff Bonish of Stow, MA, Robert D’Amore of Norwood MA, Laura D’Amore and Richard Johnson of Canton, MA, and Linda D’Amore and John de Szendeffy of Sharon, MA.
Alfredo was also “Pop-pop” to his grandchildren: Marisa Bonish, Simon, Luke and Theodore Johnson, and Audrey and Myles de Szendeffy. He is also survived by many loving cousins and friends in Italy and the US.
In his childhood he survived illness and war. He was an Italian patriot and an American success story.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Wednesday 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Catherine’s Church 547 Washington St., Norwood Thursday morning at 9:00.
