Claire A. Alves, 90, of Fairhaven died September 6, 2018 peacefully at Our Lady's Haven.
She was the wife of the late Clarence M. Alves, Jr.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Simeon and Anna (Duval) Sabourin, she lived in New Bedford and Freetown most of her life before moving to Fairhaven 18 years ago.
Mrs. Alves was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
She was formerly employed as a licensed practical nurse at St. Luke's Hospital for several years until her retirement.
Mrs. Alves enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Sea Shell Steppers Square Dancing Club.
Her family would like to thank the staff Our Lady's Haven for the wonderful care that Claire received.
Survivors include her 4 sons, Robert M. Alves and his wife Rosemary of Pascoag, RI, Kenneth M. Alves and his wife Lynn of Ivans, Utah, Kevin M. Alves and his wife Catherine of New Bedford and Bruce M. Alves and his wife Jennifer of Dighton; 3 daughters, Carol-Ann St. Gelais and her husband Romeo of Acushnet, Trudy M. Fatula and her husband Dale of New Bedford and Terri-Ann F. Guilbeault and her husband Michael of Fairhaven; 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Brian M. Alves, the grandmother of the late William Alves, Alyssa Bonneau, Joey Bonneau, and Paul Bonneau and the sister of the late Florence Sabourin, Raymond W. Sabourin, Oscar L. Sabourin and Gilbert E. Sabourin.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 11th at 8:45 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, September 10th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
