Obituary

Concord - Frances Marion (Sylvester) Boutilier died peacefully Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the age of 93 while a resident at Presidential Oaks Nursing Home in Concord.

She was born Frances M. Sylvester on September 25, 1924, in Brockton, Mass. to parents Frank and Marion Sylvester. She spent her early childhood years growing up in Massachusetts before her family moved to Vermont where the Sylvesters owned and operated a local store in Jackson, Vermont. The family resided in nearby Essex Junction where Frances attended high school. She graduated from New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Boston where she received her nursing degree and met her husband of 58 years, Gordon W. Boutilier of Whitinsville, Mass. They began their lives living in the Massachusetts towns of Whitinsville, Natick and East Douglas where they raised three of their five children. The family then moved to New Hampshire where, in the Town of Hudson, two more children were born and the family of seven spent the remainder of their lives. They spent many wonderful summers boating on Pawtuckaway Lake, Baboosic Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee until the couple retired in 1986.

Frances was a career nurse working at Nashua Memorial Hospital for nearly 20 years. She spent the last ten years of her career at the Canal Street plant of Sanders Associates, Inc. where she was the facility’s onsite nurse.

The couple maintained a residence in Laconia and wintered in Venice, Florida for many happy years. Frances and Gordon became avid golfers in both states. After Gordon’s death, Frances lived year-round in Venice and continued to play weekly into her 93rd year. She was a formidable contender with her first hole-in-one in her late eighties. This was her passion. She returned to NH in February where she remained until her death.

She leaves three children, Robert Boutilier and his wife Sandra of Alton, Gail Henderson of Greenfield, Joanne Robbins of Cambridge, Mass; five grandchildren: Maryann Shepard, Lisa McNally, Eric Batchelder, Keith Batchelder and Brandon Batchelder; ten great-grandchildren, Kieran, Kelsey, DJ, Tristan, Autumn, Morgan, Desmond, Henry, Jack and Chandler.

She is predeceased by her husband, Gordon W. Boutilier, her brother, Roger Sylvester, her daughter, Linda Hansen, her daughter, Jeanne Selvaag and her grandson, William Boutilier.

A Memorial Service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Boscawen, NH on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11:00am.
