HOLLIS- Alice Emma Alexander Bradbury, age 92, longtime Hollis resident, passed away on Sept. 5, 2018 at Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Hollis on Nov. 12, 1925, a daughter of the late John and Emma (Schneider) Alexander and graduated from Hollis Schools.
After graduation, Alice was asked to teach at the local one room schoolhouse. She often spoke of her time in the classroom and the joy surrounding working with children.
In 1947 she married Douglas Bradbury. They had three boys and spent 64 lovely years together before his passing in 2012.
Alice raised their sons before returning to the workforce and spent many years as a Postal Clerk. She worked at Post Offices in Gorham, Hollis, West Buxton for 17 years, and other nearby communities.
She was a member of the Band Boosters Club of Hollis, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Hollis, the Sunshine Club of Hollis, and the Hollis Honkers Snowmobile Club.
Upon retiring, Alice spent 17 memorable years in Florida with her husband. And although she enjoyed vacationing and bicycling, the love of her family was what was most important to Alice.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, parents, and siblings - Walter Alexander, Leon Alexander, Beatrice Burnell, and Liz Thomas.
Alice is survived by her three sons and their wives - Neil and Linda Bradbury of Hollis, Dwight and Karen Bradbury of Waterboro, and Dennis and Tanya Bradbury of Scarborough; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday Sept. 14 at 10 AM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) Buxton.
