Ethel L. (Millis) Vergow, age 97, of Attleboro, formerly of Troy, New York passed away peacefully in the presence of her adoring family on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Wingate at Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard E. Vergow.
Born in Corinth, New York on March 10, 1921, she was a loving daughter of the late Edwin and Beulah (Tripp) Millis.
Ethel grew up in Corinth and was a graduate of Corinth High School. She furthered her studies, graduating from Oswego State College with a bachelor’s degree in education.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Vergow had taught third grade for the Lansingburgh Central School District in Troy. She had made her home in Attleboro for the past eleven years and was a former longtime resident of Troy.
While living in Attleboro, Ethel attended the Centenary United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her family, knitting, crocheting and making afghans for family and friends alike.
She is survived by her devoted sons James H. Vergow and his wife Laura of Attleboro, and Thomas D. Vergow and his wife Dean of Pawtucket. She was the dear sister of the late Edwin Millis. She was the cherished grandmother of Zachary Vergow and his wife Lisa, Nathaniel Vergow and his wife Shannan, Thomas Vergow and his wife Brandi, and Joshua Vergow and his wife Meaghan and is also survived by eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery, 186 Oakwood Avenue St., Troy, New York on Friday, September 21st at 11:00 A.M.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 24th at 10:00 A.M. in St Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton.
Visiting hours are omitted and those wishing may remember Ethel with a donation in her memory to the Food Pantry at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 39 North Main St., Attleboro, MA 02703 or the House of Praise, 1688 U.S. 9, Castleton-On-Hudson, NY 12033
