Obituary

LACONIA — Jane Montgomery Robinson, 88, of Laconia, died in her sleep at Belknap County Nursing Home on Aug. 23, 2018, with her husband, Nathaniel, at her side.

Jane was born in Cohasset, Massachusetts, on Dec. 13, 1929, to Julia and Guy Montgomery. Jane’s family lived on Elm Street in Hingham, Massachusetts. She graduated from Hingham High School in 1947. As a student there, she was a member of the National Thespian Society, Troupe Number 837. Jane acted in and directed plays as part of her course work.

Jane was also a member of the First Parish Church of Hingham, where she was a soloist for Youth Sunday Services, and was also a member of the Peter Hobart Club.

Jane attended Gorham State Teachers’ College in Gorham, Maine, where she took courses in elementary education.

Jane married Nathaniel Robinson, also from Hingham, on Feb. 8, 1950. They settled in Scituate, Massachusetts, and raised five children.

Jane and Nat moved their family to Laconia in 1967. They traveled extensively throughout the U.S and abroad after their children were grown. They eventually landed in Saudi Arabia for a five-year stay, while Nat was on an assignment there in the 1980s.

Returning to New Hampshire in 1985, Jane acquired a job as a receptionist at the J. Jill Company in Laconia. She retired in 1996.

Jane’s passions were reading and music. She loved to play the piano and sing, and for a time was a member of the Sweet Adelines Barbershop Quartet.

Jane is survived by Nathaniel, her husband of 68 years, and their five children, Scott Robinson of Palm Bay, Florida, Julia (Greg) Robinson-Hime of Center Harbor, Deborah (Kevin) Dieffenbach of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, Eric Robinson of Laconia, and Joanna (Stan) Mack of Pinellas Park, Florida; and also by five grandchildren, Alexander Montgomery Rankin, Natalie Joan Parys, Megan Lynn Long, Taylor Robinson Mack, Steven Henry Robinson; and three great-grandchildren, Thomas Scott Long, Alfred James and Frances Jane Parys.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the caring nurses and staff of Belknap County Nursing Home where Jane was a resident for several years. Jane was loved by all for her sense of humor and feisty spirit. Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association online at ALZ.org.

Services will be announced at a later date.
