Obituary

CHICOPEE ~ Lorraine V. Desjardins, 93, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke. She was born in Holyoke on May 12, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late Sylvio P. and Blanche Y. (Lavigne) Desjardins. She attended Holyoke schools and later worked as an executive secretary at the Brown Paper Company in Holyoke for over 30 years. She moved to Aldenville in 1989. Lorraine was an avid reader, kept up with current events, loved to shop and look for bargains and enjoyed family get-togethers. She loved ballroom dancing and danced with her late long-time partner, Harold Lally. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She leaves her sister, Cecile Young of Easthampton; her sister-in-law, Claire Gemme of Chicopee; her three nieces, Barbara Young of Easthampton, Colette Gelinas and her husband, Gary, of West Springfield and Michelle Mohnkern and her husband, Jason, of Wayland, MA; and her three grand nieces and two grand nephews, Lisa Teal and her husband, Ron, of Southwick, Caitlin Simard of Easthampton, Nicole Gelinas and Kyle Gelinas, both of West Springfield, and Michael Perrier and his wife, Tina, of Westfield. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, H. Vincent Gemme who was Called Home on December 12, 1983. Her family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the Second Floor staff at Mont Marie, especially Raymonda, Neyda and Nicole, for their compassionate care of Lorraine during her time with them. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, September 8, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning, September 8, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. before the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located at the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. For those who prefer, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Sainte Rose de Lima Church Ministry, c/o 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
