C'est fini. After a battle with cancer, Karen DeLaVergne passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018. Traveling the world with a spirit for adventure and wonder, Karen instilled a beautiful curiosity about language, faith, and people in her children. Karen taught at Holy Rosary in Flint, Michigan, as well as Anderson High School and Highland High School in Anderson, Indiana for 40 years. Karen retired from teaching in Anderson Community Schools in 2014 and began teaching French at Anderson University from 2014--2018. Over that time, she influenced the lives of thousands of students. Karen had a gift for making school "fun" for students and refused to accept that any student is "not cut out for school." Karen has always been committed to her faith in the Lord Jesus and her family.
Karen is survived by her husband, Gerald DeLaVergne; daughters Kelly and Darcy DeLaVergne, and sons, Luke (Erica) and Mark (Tasha) DeLaVergne. Karen was very invested in her seven grandchildren, Tyler, Tori, Tania, Elijah, Soren, Mayz, and Olive. She is also survived by two brothers, Kevin and Ken Price.
Karen had many loves: French, family, travel, and faith. Karen's favorite scripture was Phillippians 4:6.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Private interment will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14th from 4-8 PM at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 South Rangeline Rd.
