Obituary


Walter L. Cronin, retired Patrolman, Medford Police Dept. of Medford and Parkwood Beach, Wareham, passed away peacefully, September 1, 2018, at the Care Dimensions Hospice Facility in Lincoln. He was 86. Walter was the beloved husband of Frances M. (MacKinnon) Cronin and together they shared 63 years of marriage. Born in Medford he was the son of the late John J. and Mary A. (Harrington) Cronin.

Walter was raised and educated in Medford and was a 1952 graduate of Medford High School. In 1953 Walter was inducted into the United States Army and honorably served during the Korean War until his discharge in 1955. He was appointed to the Medford Police Department as a Patrolman in 1961 and faithfully served the citizens of Medford until his retirement in 1992. In his leisure time he enjoyed boating and fishing, golfing, playing cards with friends and family, especially playing Gin, and was an avid fan of the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots. However his greatest joy was his family. Nothing made him happier than to be with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and those he loved.

In addition to his wife, Walter is lovingly survived by his devoted children; Steven Cronin of Medford and his former wife Christine, Timothy Cronin and his wife Anita of Stoneham, Lori James and her husband Lawrence of Medford. He was the loving grandfather of Ryan Cronin and his wife Katie, Devin Cronin and his girlfriend Melissa, Meghan Iacopucci and her husband Joseph, Brittany Enos and her husband Brian, and Steven James. He was the loving great grandfather of Madison and Joseph Iacopucci, Aiden Cronin and Aubrey Enos. Brother of Helen McCarran of Watertown, the late Mary McShea and John Cronin.

Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Saturday, Sept. 8th, at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St. Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Walter's memory to the Officer Ronald Tarentino, Jr. Charitable Fund, P.O.
