Obituary

Olga R. “Oggi” (Mangherini) Lebruto, of Somerville, formerly of Boston’s North End, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 30th. She was 95.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Ercole and Gaetana (Vecchia) Mangherini. Oggi was educated in the North End and graduated high school in 1941.

Oggi was a Clerk Level II for the City of Boston in the Department of Revenue. She enjoyed her work and the relationships she built there. Oggi was also a full time homemaker. She cared for her family and raised her children with strong values.

Oggi was a strong woman, very ambitious and capable of handling anything. She was a straight forward and to the point kind of person. Oggi was selfless and cared for many family members through their illnesses until their deaths. A woman of great faith, she lived her life in accordance with the Christian values of faith, hope and love and made sure to pass those virtues on to her children and grandchildren.

Oggi was a humble and simple person who liked structure and routine. She was consistent with purchasing clothing that was black, gray or navy blue. Oggi was also specific about the color of her socks, as they always had to match her outfit.

In her spare time, Oggi loved to watch the television shows: Everybody Loves Raymond and Judge Judy. No matter which show she was watching, she always liked to have her daughter with her while the program was on. If Oggi fell asleep and someone changed the channel, she would wake up and turn the channel back. She enjoyed going to the beach when her family was there and up until she was 89, the highlight of her week was going to get her hair done. Her hair was always perfect and she was careful not to ruin her hairstyle during the day.

Oggi was a loving person who enjoyed being with her family and friends. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.

Oggi was the beloved wife of the late Angelo S. Lebruto, who passed away in 2000. The two were married on October 12, 1950 in Boston’s North End. Together they shared 50 loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Janice Fowler and her significant other Robert Kadra of Somerville and the late Barbara Deshler and her surviving husband Richard of Leominster. Oggi was the loving grandmother of John “Sonny” Fowler of Somerville and Michael Deshler and his wife Heather of Sterling. She was the loving great grandmother of Sonny, Nino and Dante Fowler, all of Somerville. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Oggi was preceded in death by her siblings Mary Wise, Aldo and Donato Mangherini.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford on Thursday, September 6th at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 9 through 11 AM. Services will conclude with committal prayers at St. Michael Cemetery Chapel, Boston.
