Obituary

Carl T. Buckley, 82, of Glocester, died Friday, August 31, 2018 at Fatima Hospital. He was the husband of Jane “Jeanie” (Jacques) Buckley. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this past June.

Born in Ward, West Virginia, he was a son of the late John Herman Buckley and Melda (Akers) Buckley.

Mr. Bucklely served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was Team Captain for the Arcadoodles while serving aboard the USS Arcadia. He was proud not only of his service to his country but also that of his brothers and of his grandchildren service to the country.

He attended West Virginia Tech following his service with the United States Navy and was starting center for the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears.

Mr. Buckley was a dedicated salesman in the industrial gas field for over 60 years. He was currently employed by Total Welding in East Freetown, MA. He started his career at Corp Brothers and later Abco. He was always available for his customers as they were not customers to him, they were friends. He was constantly learning and eager to share his knowledge of welding, whether it be someone working in the field or his granddaughter studying welding at school.

Mr. Buckley was an active member of Greenville Baptist Church and could often be found at the church lending a hand wherever there was a need. He was a member of Couples Club, handyman, greeter, dishwasher and timekeeper.

He was named Ponaganset Volunteer of the Year in 2015 and inducted in the Ponaganset Athletic Hall of Fame September 27, 2014, recognized as Community Contributor 1969-2013. He was honored by the town of Glocester on February 28, 2014, for his 40 years of service to the Boys and Girls Basketball Programs.

He was recognized by Ponagnset High School Basket Boosters Club, April 30, 1987, for his dedication and support of Ponaganset Basketball. He was also Director of Men's Winter League Basketball for the town of Glocester and worked approximately 3,000 games at Ponaganset, either at the clock or running the court as referee

An avid gardener, he managed to grow gardens capable of feeding family, friends and friends of friends throughout the summer. He was an expert woodworker who enjoyed countless hours in his workshop building furniture and creating custom objects to better others' lives.

He was a loving husband who was completely devoted to his wife of near sixty years, a loving father and a generous grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren and a man who never met a stranger.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Elizabeth “Beth” Anderson and her husband Nate of Plymouth, CT and Jane Buckley of Glocester, his nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his siblings: Goldie Sue Farley of Dunbar, West Virginia and Robert Buckley of Ohio. He was the father of the late C. Thomas Buckley, and brother of the late John “Jack”, Samuel “Sam”, Billy Joe “Bill” and Fred Buckley, Pauline Tucker and Rosenia Olson. He was the brother in law of George Jacques and his wife Sandy of Glocester. He leaves his daughter-in-law Marcia Buckley of Foster.

His funeral service will be held Thursday September 6th at 10am in the Greenville Baptist Church, Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial with Military honors will follow in Acote’s Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Visitation will be Wednesday September 5th 4-8 pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
