James J. Moriarty died on November 28, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was cared for with kindness for the last 10 years at the Kristen Beth Nursing Home, and for the last year at Hallmark Nursing Home. He was born in New Bedford the son of the late Capt. Gerald and Mary (Rohan) Moriarty.
As a child, he attended Mt. Pleasant School in New Bedford and was a communicant of Holy Name Church. He worked successfully on the piers of New Bedford on his father's boats, as well as many others in the fleet as a fish lumper. He had many loving, supportive friends who were his network on the wharf: his brother-in-law, John Darwin; Richard Saunders, whose parents, Herman and Tilly Saunders, were Jim's loving godparents; Arnold Parsons; Bill Brennan and Joe Machado. They all had a part in helping him live and work in the real world.
He leaves his loving family: his sisters, Teresa M. Darwin of Fairhaven, and Barbara Carroll of Warwick, RI; three nephews, Joshua Darwin, John Carroll and Michael Carroll; three nieces, Barbara Burr, Wendy Wakeman and Susan Ordahl; and his cousins.
Funeral Services will be private.
