Robert C. Gray, Jr., 64, of Derry, NH passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. He was born on July 23, 1954 in Springfield, MA, a son of Netha (Bowen) and Robert C. Gray Sr. Robert graduated from UMass Amherst with a bachelor’s degree In Psychology and went on to complete his graduate schooling at Springfield College, where he received his Master’s degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Rehabilitation Counseling. He was a self-employed Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at Vocational Assessment Center and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Middlesex Community College. Bob was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all the New England teams including his beloved UMass Basketball Team. He was a rock and roll music and trivia aficionado. He enjoyed playing ukulele and guitar, both of which were self-taught, and a lifelong fan of Beatles and Jethro Tull music and memorabilia. Bob was devoted to his family and friends who brought him great joy and happiness. He will be forever be remembered as a gentle and selfless man.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Donna (Grady) Gray, son, Derek Gray and wife Kerry, sister, Sheila Noe, brother Gregg Shumway and wife Pauline, several nieces and nephews, Danielle Shumway and her partner, Angela Bryan and their children Maxwell and Arthur Bryan, Nicole Davini and husband Simon and their daughter Meghan Topor, Jeremy Dec, Christopher Dec, Heather Dec and Daniel Dec. He was predeceased by one brother John Shumway in 2017. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion Liffey.
SCHEDULE CHANGE: Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 10am – 1pm with a funeral service to begin at 12:30 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium ,15 Birch Street, Derry. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry. Memorial contributions may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
