Obituary

Anthony Ciresi, II, 65, of Pine Hill Avenue, Johnston, died Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Anne M. (Laferriere) Ciresi. They had been married for 41 years.

Born in Cranston, he was a son of Evelyn A. (Carnevale) Ciresi of Cranston and the late S. William Ciresi. He had lived in Johnston for 33 years.

Tony started his teaching career at the former Woonsocket Catholic Regional Junior High. At the time of his retirement in 2017, he was an 8th grade social studies teacher at Woonsocket Middle School. His career spanned 36 years.

In 1972, Tony graduated from Mt. St. Charles Academy where he had been a standout goaltender and was selected to the RI All-State Hockey Team. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and was named All-Ivy Goaltender for 1973-74. He was the Assistant Hockey Coach at Mt. St. Charles from 1981-1991. He spent time as the Head coach at North Smithfield High School as well as Woonsocket High School. He was an Assistant Coach/Goalie Consultant at Brown University for 15 years.

Besides his wife and mother he is survived by a son, Anthony Ciresi, III of North Providence and a brother, William Ciresi of Cranston. He was the brother of the late Philip Ciresi.

A Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Wednesday at 9:30am in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Johnston. Visitation Tuesday 4-8pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
