Gilbert A. Powers, age 71, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 30, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Gloria J. (Striplin) Powers, to whom he was wed for the past forty-five years.
Born in Waltham, MA on November 12, 1946, he was a loving son of Stella (Staskiewicz) Powers of Billerica and the late Henry Powers.
Gil spent his childhood living in Florida. His family later moved to Hyde Park, where he was a graduate of Hyde Park High School.
A resident of Mansfield for the past forty-one years, Mr. Powers was a retired member of the Pipefitters Union Local 537 in Boston. He retired with the position of a project manager following a career that spanned fifty years.
Gil was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. He loved spending time with his adoring family and the highlight of his day was playing hide-and- go-seek with his five-year-old granddaughter. Gil was also an avid and loyal New England sports fan. He loved gardening, and also enjoyed playing golf and trips to Foxwood Casino.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his devoted children Kevin J. Powers and his wife Gina of Mansfield, Angela L. Giusti and her husband Mark of Cumberland, RI, Robert W. Curley of Athol, and the late Scott Powers who is survived by his loving companion Nora J. Seyer of Mansfield and the late Pamela A. Curley. He was the treasured grandfather of Kara Powers, Sean Powers, Eliana Giusti and Amanda Curley. He was the dear nephew of the late Vincent Staskiewicz, Ann Domohowski and Robert Stack, and is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 4th at 11:00 A.M. in St Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at St Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 3rd from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
