Obituary

Spiridon “Spiros” Anifantis, 72

Dateline: Norton, MA

Spiridon “Spiros” Anifantis, age 72, of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Eleni (Kontoulis) Anifantis, to whom he was wed on September 6, 1970.

Born in the small town of Polva, in the northern part of Greece on June 10, 1946, he was a loving son and oldest child of Stamatia (Tsigos) Anifantis of Greece and the late Nicholas Anifantis.

Spiros grew up and was educated in Filiates, Greece with his four sisters and brother. He honorably served his country in the Greek Army and later worked for the Government of Greece. In 1970, he and his newlywed bride, along with his brother-in-law, moved to the United States, first settling in Worcester in hopes of pursuing the “American Dream”.

In 1973 Mr. Anifantis and his family moved to Norton, where he and his brother-in law and best friend Peter Kontoulis established the Norton House of Pizza. Spiros was well known in the Norton community where he resided for the past forty-five years. At work, he served his pizza to three generations of customers who became his friends for life and had a special way of making children laugh.

Spiros was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton and while living in Worcester was a member of Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church.

He enjoyed reading, politics, history, the excitement of trips to area casinos and was very proud of his family and his Greek heritage. His other interests included traveling back to his homeland of Greece, trips to Cape Cod and dining at his son-in laws restaurant, the Yarmouth House.

Spiros was truly one of a kind. He will always be remembered for his strong work ethics and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his devoted children Toula Anifantis-Ibrahim and her husband George of Norton, Nikoletta Anifantis-Kounadis and her husband Christos of West Yarmouth, and Nikos Anifantis and his wife Courtney of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Tia, John, Gerasimos Spiros and Valentina. He was the dear brother of Costantinos Anifantis of Italy, Lambrini Stavrou of Greece, Stavroula Andreopoulos of Chelmsford, Paraskevi Makri of Greece and Maria Fideropoulou of Greece. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, September 3rd at 11:00 in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 2nd from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
