Carmen Justina DeCosta-Jerome was born on June 20, 1947 in the district of Harry Watch,
Manchester, Jamaica. She was the daughter of the late Ina and Herbert Smith. She attended the Harry Watch All Age School and after graduating, Carmen stayed at home where she was
dedicated to caring and assisting her parents and younger siblings.
Shortly after arriving to Boston, Massachusetts, Carmen worked as an Assembler with Atlas
Engineering Company. To continue her career path, Carmen worked as an Aide with Walter Lee Fernald State School where she obtained her Nursing Aide Certificate. After 33 years of
attending and caring for clients, she retired in 2016.
Education was extremely important to Carmen, so she decided to attend the Boston Public
School Continuing Education Program and proudly graduated with her high school diploma in
2001
Carmen was a vibrant woman and she expressed her love for music, friends and family. She
enjoyed working in her garden and took pride in harvesting her fruits and vegetables.
Carmen was a woman of faith and attended the New Testament Church of God in Dorchester,
MA. Under the teachings and guidance, Carmen was baptized and dedicated her time to Christ, her faith and her church family. She attended her church until she was no longer able to attend due to a lengthy illness.
Carmen fought a great fight and impacted so many lives. After serving her God’s given purpose, her Heavenly Father called her home on August 23, 2018.
Carmen leaves behind the love of her life and faithful husband, Hilnac Jerome; Her two sons,
Lloyd Lorraine (wife, Michelle Lorraine) and Omar DeCosta (wife, Toria DeCosta); Her
daughter, Varlin (Elaine) Henry; Her brother, Derrick Smith; Her sisters, Edith Smith, Janette
Adamson, Dahlia Grant, Hyacinth Davy and Josephine Smith. She also leaves behind a host of
grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The viewing will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Joseph Russo Funeral Home at 5-8 pm. 814 American Legion Hwy, Roslindale, MA.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the House of Deliverance
New Testament Church of God at 10am. 424 Washington Street, Dorchester, MA.
