Robert C. Sylvia, 78, a life-long resident of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Edward G. and Irene (Perry) Sylvia.
Bob went to Winslow School and Roosevelt Junior High. He received a certificate from Campbell Business School.
He worked at Cornell-Dublier and Cameo Curtains before becoming an assistant manager at Norlantic Diesel, Inc. in Fairhaven.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irene (Moniz); his daughter, Lynne-Marie Dandeneau and her husband, Jim; his son, Matthew and his wife, Fritha; his siblings, Richard Sylvia, and Edward W. Sylvia and his wife Agnes; his sisters-in-law, Dolores Lavoie and Rose Perry; his brother-in-law, Stephen Moniz and his husband Randy Ogoff; his six grandchildren, Meighread and Andrew Dandeneau and Kate, Eden, Sophie, and Freya Sylvia; as well as many nieces and nephews especially Lori Sylvia-Fournier, who was his advocate throughout his illness, and many cousins and friends.
He enjoyed going to the casinos, playing Bingo with his sisters-in-law and having Sunday dinner with his brother, Eddie and wife, Agnes, but the true joy of his life was spending time picking up his granddaughters from school, playing cards with Andrew, and attending Meighread’s many performances.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish at 9 AM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 4-8 PM.
