Obituary


George H. Martel, a lifelong resident of Medford passed away peacefully at his home August 24, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Janet T. (Marchand) Martel. Born in Medford he was the son of the late George H. and Nora R. (Bestick) Martel.

Raised and educated in Medford, George was a 1953 graduate of Medford High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956 serving overseas for a year and a half. When he returned home from the service he began working as an electrician and for the next 45 years he practiced his trade with Stop & Shop and also at the Tufts Medical Center until his retirement. George was extremely talented with his hands and his work ethic. He was always keeping busy around his home repairing anything that needed some fixing. Mostly devoted to his family, nothing made him happier than to be at home surrounded by those he loved. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his beloved wife, George is survived by his children; Joanne Lennox and her husband Jamie of Flower Mound, TX, George Martel Jr., and his wife Lisa Gianino - Martel of Medford, Stephen Martel and his wife Deb of Apple Valley, MN, Jacqueline Merrick and her husband Thomas of Tampa, FL, Denise DeVitto and her husband Paul of Naples, FL, Laura Morin and her husband Scott of Washington, NH. He is also survived by 16 loving grandchildren and 5 loving great grandchildren. Brother of the late Robert Martel and Joane Boose. Further survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday, September 8th, from 2 to 6 p.m. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in George's memory to the M.S.P.C.A - Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
