Alice F. (Ferreira) Martel, 78, of Dartmouth died Monday November 28, 2005 at home surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was the wife of Raymond A. Martel, Sr.; they were married 59 years.
Born in Goodyear, Conn., the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Medeiros) Ferreira, she lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Dartmouth in 1972.
She was a communicant of St. George Church in Westport.
Mrs. Martel was the proprietor of Alice Martel Ceramic Studio.
She loved cooking, photography and crafts, and most of all, spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Raymond A. Martel, Jr., and his wife Helena, of Dartmouth; two daughters, Alice Martel and Nancy Silva, and her husband Edmund, all of Dartmouth; four sisters, Edelena Dochek of Connecticut, and Edwina Souza, Pearl Thosz and Delores Girouard, all of New Bedford; three grandchildren, Adam Silva, and his wife Lorraine, Joshua Martel and Alishia Martel, all of Dartmouth; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Silva; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Eria Medeiros, Manuel Ferreira and Abilio "Billy" Ferreira.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Thursday December 1, 2005 at 8:45 AM. Funeral Mass at St. George Church, Westport at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday November 30, 2005 from 6-9 PM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
