DENNIS: Michael J. Lally, 71, passed away peacefully at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland on August 22, 2018.
He was born in Cambridge on March 15, 1947 the son of the late William E. Lally and Marion F. (Murphy) Lally.
Michael grew up in Newtonville and graduated from Newton North High School. After high school he served with the U.S. Army and completed a tour of duty as a PFC/ Watercraft Operator in Korea. This duty only served to whet his appetite for boats and the sea as he owned several boats in later years and enjoyed fishing in the waters off of Cape Cod.
His interests were many and varied. He owned and managed a landscaping company until his interest and knowledge of antiques lured him into running his own antique business for several years in Newton Upper Falls. Later he used his acquired skills and took a civilian staff position with the Air Force on Cape Cod and later with Barnstable County.
In his spare time after moving to Cape Cod he found time to assist his retired parents with the maintenance of their property in Dennis. Never tiring of his interest in antiques he amassed a large collection of antiques including a vintage Mercedes Benz SL.
He is survived by his brother Bill Lally and his wife Jacqueline of Winthrop, his sister Janet Vitagliano and her husband Joseph of Wayland and his sister Judith Lally Dooley and her husband Tevis of Arch Cape, Oregon as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 4:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Wayland.
Private family interment will be held at Bourne National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Michael’s memory may be sent to Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence, 10 Green Way, Wayland, MA 10778.
