Martha Jane Veale Pearman, 89, of Chula passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2018, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula with the Rev. Larry Layfield officiating. Mrs. Pearman will be laid to rest at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Chula. The family will receive friends Monday, August 27, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula.
Steffen Pearman, Clay Pate, Nathan Pearman, Joe Grasser, Murray Roberson, Steve Pearman, Brent Pearman and Russ Griffin will serve as pallbearers.
Born April 19, 1929 in Athens, Mrs. Pearman was the daughter of the late Howard Veale, Sr. and Irene Shackelford Veale. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Horace E. Pearman, who she married in 1947; her favorite son-in-law, Dan Lee Taylor; three sisters, Joanne Veale, Judy Veale and Elizabeth Veale Carter; and one brother, William “Billy” Veale. Before retiring, she was a farmer; worked for the Manhattan Shirt Company; and was a daycare teacher at Tifton’s First Baptist Church, until becoming a homemaker, later in life. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved to sew; loved to read and color; and had lived in Chula for 71 years. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula.
Mrs. Pearman is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James Leroy and Carole King Pearman of Winter Springs, Florida and Thomas Elton and Glenda Pearman of Chula; one daughter, Sandra Dianne Pearman Taylor of Tifton; two brothers, Howard Sylvester “Buster” Veale, Jr. of Ocala, Florida and Randall Veale of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one sister, Joyce Veale Tesney of Opelika, Alabama; four grandchildren and their spouses, Steffen and Heather Pearman, Christa and Clay Pate, Becky Taylor and Nathan Pearman; and four great-grandchildren, Omie Pate, Lettie Pate, Abby Pearman and Mason Pearman.
