Obituary

Worcester - Arthur Thanas, 78, of 297 Plantation St. died Wednesday June 19 in St. Vincent Hospital - Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

He leaves his wife Antoinette (Christo) Thanas of Worcester; three sons Charles Thanas of Leicester, Mark Thanas of Concord, NH and Brian Thanas of Worcester; four grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister Hope Lano. Mr. Thanas was born in Worcester son of Costa and Constantina (Petro) Thanas.

Mr. Thanas is an Army veteran of World War II.

He worked for Lodding Engineering retiring in 1988. He previously owned and operated Hammond Street Market.

Mr. Thanas was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church and the Son's of St. Mary at the church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #453, the Worcester Boy's Club Alumni Association, the Worcester Homing Pigeons Club and he was also in the Signal Pigeoneer Club while in the Army.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday June 25 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home (www.Royfuneral.com) 12 Hammond St. with a service at 11 AM in St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church 535 Salisbury St.. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are on Monday June 24 in the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM. Trisagion Service will be held at 6 PM during the calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church 535 Salisbury Street Worcester, MA 01609.
