John Franklin Burgess, 72, of Tifton passed away Monday, August 20, 2018, at Tift Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Burgess at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Ronnie Cone and the Rev. John Cone officiating. Mr. Burgess will be laid to rest at a later date. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 23, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born August 31, 1945 in Tift County, Mr. Burgess was the son of the late Lonnie Emmett Burgess and Alberta Frances Parker Burgess. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Mathews; and one brother Gordon Lee Burgess, Sr. Before retiring, he was the Manager of City Water Works in Ty Ty. He loved to fish and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mr. Burgess is survived by one son, Lonnie Burgess of Ty Ty; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jim Gillespie of Summerville, South Carolina; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jimmy D. and Nell Burgess and Hilton and Betty Sue Burgess, all of Tifton and Grady Burgess of Columbus; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Latrelle and John Cone of Tifton and Sherry and Rob Worth of Eustis, Florida; a brother-in-law, Ray Mathews of Enigma; and one grandson, Justin Walker.
