John S. Lewandowski, 83, a lifelong resident of Worcester, MA, returned to God on August 18, 2018 after as strong and courageous life, until succumbing to complications of pneumonia. A son of Antoni and Bertha (Siwik) Lewandowski, he graduated from St. Mary’s High School and joined the U.S. Air Force serving stateside during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he married his beloved Ginny in 1957.
John worked for New England High Carbon Wire Company for many years as a foreman until it closed in 1981. He then worked for the Worcester Water Department retiring in 2005. John was a jack-of-all-trades working on his own or with his brothers doing basic home repairs, laying tile, painting and wallpapering.
John is survived by his devoted wife of almost sixty-one years, Virginia M. (Dziemian) Lewandowski. Together they raised six children. He leaves three son; Mark Lewandowski (Cheryl) of Worcester, Paul Lewandowski (Lorraine) of Wales, and John Lewandowski of Huntsville, TX; three daughters, Virginia Heroux (John) of Leominster, Terry Lewandowski of Fort Collins, CO and Tina Lewandowski-Harding (James) of Baldwinville.
John was the proud “Dziadzi” of fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Edna Slowaski of Shrewsbury and Anna Priestley of Northboro, sister-in-laws, Anna Lewandowski of Millbury,Rita Tirella and Josephine Stone, both of Worcester and one brother–in-law, John Drewski of Rochester, NY. He was also a beloved uncle and second dad, to William Lewandowski of Sutton. Uncle Janek will also be missed by dozens of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Edwin, and Thaddeus Lewandowski; sisters, Joan, Mary and Frances.
John was an avid card player and enjoyed the New England Patriots. He often enjoyed family vacations on Cape Cod, get-a-ways to Misquamicut and Ogunquit Beaches, and did travel to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and St. Thomas. John helped many an underdog in his life and was known for his generosity. His family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center, St. Vincent’s Hospital and Jewish Healthcare Hospice Services for their care. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Stephen Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Notre Dame Mausoleum.
