Alvan B. Boyd, 85, of Medway, died Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Joan F. (Landry) Boyd for the past 64 years.
Born in Boston on February 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Roy H. and Irma L. (Battis) Boyd.
Alvan was a lifelong resident of Medway and graduated from Medway High School in 1951.
He had worked at the former Hodgson Houses, Inc.in Dover and later at Paramount Industries, Inc. in Medway for many years.
Alvan proudly served on the Medway Fire Department from 1953-1988 retiring as Deputy Chief. The fire department, which was all volunteer at the time, was a major focus in his life.
Alvan’s happiest moments were spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren’s many sporting events and school activities. As a lifelong Boston sports fan, Alvan could often be found listening to a Red Sox game on the radio, while at the same time watching the Patriots on the TV. Although a true home body, Alvan enjoyed vacationing with close friends and family.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Diane Tierney and her husband Richard of Newburyport, Robert Boyd and his wife Paula of Franklin and Pam Saidnawey and her husband John of Belmont.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his brother Roy Boyd.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Monday, August 20 at 11 a.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com). Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 - 5 p.m.
