Shirley R. (Hill) Houston, age 57, of Brockton, died peacefully Wednesday August 8, 2018 at Season’s Hospice in Milton. Shirley was the loving wife for 29 years to Leroy Houston, Jr. Born in Shreveport Louisiana, she was the daughter of Robert and Juanita (Lyons) Hill. Shirley was raised and educated in New York where she attended Theodore Roosevelt High School, Howard University and Long Island University. She also attended Northeastern University. Besides being a mother and homeschooling her children, Shirley was also an author of poetry, model, motivational speaker and beauty advisor at Macy’s. Shirley was a soft spoken, well loved, receptive and genuinely kind spirit who was always concerned about other’s needs. She was a longtime member of the Lincoln Church’s Women’s Ministry.
Shirley was the devoted mother of Nyles Houston and his companion Janelle, Kyle, Joshua, Jairus, Micaiah and Caleb Houston all of Brockton, grandmother of Isaiah Houston, Jealeeah , Leeyanih and Myanelle Ogarro-Young ; sister of Rosalyn and Sonya Hill and sister-in-law of Archie Houston, Maggie Jones, James Houston, Antinette Houston, Derrick Houston, Christopher Houston and Melissa Houston. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in the Lincoln Church, 180 Oak Street Brockton, Friday, August 17, from 10-11am followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery.
