Chester A. Orlowski, 86, of Salem, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Agnes C. (Provencher) Orlowski with whom he had shared 59 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Chester J. and Anna (Jachimowicz) Orlowski. He was a graduate of St. John’s Prep and continued his education at Northeastern University in Boston. Chet left college to join the Army during the Korean Conflict and served in Germany as a translator. Following his tour of duty he returned to Salem and continued with Northeastern where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering. He was employed by Atlantic Gelatin in Woburn as a chemical engineer for thirty-four years before retiring.
Chester was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Besides spending time with his family , he enjoyed woodworking, auto mechanics and generally tinkering around with any home improvement or fix-it projects. He was also an accomplished cook who treated his family to delicious potato pancakes and apple pies.
He is survived by two daughters, Catherine A. Orlowski of Cranston, RI, Carol A. Schaufler and her husband Steven of Salem, his son, John C. Orlowski and his companion, Tina Foundas of Guildhall, VT, a granddaughter Francheska Schaufler and great-grandson, Kayden Mejia both of Salem, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service in the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [ Route 114 / 1-A ] Salem on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Friday, the 17th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial, at a later date, will be private.
