Roy W. Gwaltney, 90, of Anderson, passed away on August 11, 2018, at home after an extended illness. He was born March 9, 1928, in Burnt Prairie, IL, and moved to Anderson as a young adult. He married Sue Ann Larimore on October 20, 1963. He moved to Summitville in 1974 and returned to Anderson 3 years ago.
Roy served in the Army from 1953 to 1955, spending time in Germany as a medic. He worked at Anaconda Wire & Cable (32 years), General Motors, and retired from Fred’s Frozen Foods in 1991. He was very active in the United Methodist Church and most recently attended Alexandria’s First Baptist Church. Roy was a 60 year member of the Fellowship Masonic Lodge and a lifetime member of the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite.
In addition to Sue, his wife of nearly 55 years, Roy is survived by three children Carol Denise Mitchell, Fort Myers, FL; Gregory J. (Chris Lauckner), Midland, MI; David (Heather), Kimmell, IN; granddaughter Jennifer Hughes, Bonita Springs, FL; step-grandchildren Jordan and Emily Allen; daughter-in-law Debbie Gwaltney, Anderson; sister Dorothy Kegg, Westfield, IN; several nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by son Larry Gwaltney, son-in-law Bill Mitchell; parents James and Margaret (Lough) Gwaltney; siblings Raymond, Ervin, Verla Hannaford, Herschel, and Edie Norbury.
Visitation will be August 15, 2018, from 4 to 7:30 pm, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S Rangeline Road, Anderson, IN. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 pm.
Services will be Thursday, August 16, 11:30 am, at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, with military honors.
