Milton Newberry, Jr., 82, of Tifton passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Chip Grantham officiating. Mr. Newberry will be laid to rest at Colquitt City Cemetery in Miller County at 5:00 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2018, with the Rev. Al Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, August 13, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Beacon Sunday School class and the Searchers Sunday School class of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church and members of the coffee club group, Jim Lever, Wilbur Webb, Gene Seigler, Don Purgeson, Steve Woodham, Mark Van Brackle, Bill Kelly, Don McDonald and Paul Saunders.
Born February 2, 1936 in Miller County, Mr. Newberry was the son of the late R. Milton Newberry, Sr. and Vera McDonald Newberry. He was also preceded in death by his beloved dog, Duchess. He was a graduate of Miller County High School and Southern Poly Technical Institute. Before retiring, he worked in Industrial Management at Settles Precision and had also worked at Kelley Manufacturing Company in Tifton and Lilliston Corporation in Albany. After retirement, he worked at the Georgia Agrirama, which he fully enjoyed. He was a member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Newberry is survived by his wife, Joan Newberry of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Milton and Karen Newberry of Moultrie and Brian Wilkin and Melinda Newberry of Leesburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and C. Layman Summers of Waverly, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Tara Newberry Powell and her husband Tony, Andrea Joan Newberry, Rachel Christine Newberry, Jordan Alice Newberry and Andrew Milton Newberry; and two great-grandchildren, Anthony Powell and Troy Powell.
