Obituary

MULVEY, Philip F., Jr., 86, formerly of Bourne, Falmouth and Needham, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 9, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Louise (Hehir), sons the late Philip (Terry) of Milton, Brian (Jinda) of Norwell, Kevin (Amy) of West Falmouth and Sean (Debbie) of Franklin, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Phil was born in Worcester to Philip F. Mulvey and Mildred V. (Maloney) where he attended St. Stephen’s High School and Clark University. He went on to receive a master’s degree in biology from Bowling Green State University and a doctorate from the University of Buffalo. After working as a research physiologist and professor, Phil earned his law degree at Suffolk University. He practiced personal injury law at his own firm in Boston and later in Falmouth from 1977 until his retirement in 2011.

Phil was an active member of the community, including Boys Youth Soccer, town government and serving on the board of trustees for the local hospital. One of his greatest enjoyments was his family, particularly watching and cheering on his sons, and later his grandchildren, at their numerous sports and activities. An avid golfer, Phil and Mary Lou spent many winter months in Sanibel Island playing golf there and enjoying the beauty of the island.

Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., NEEDHAM, Sunday, Aug. 12 from 3-5pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 1382 Highland Ave., Needham, Monday, Aug. 13 at 11am. Relatives and friends Kindly invited. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boys Town, 14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010.
