Kenneth L. Ek, age 76 of Brockton, passed away on August 5, 2018 at Blue Hills Health and Rehab Center in Stoughton after a lengthy illness. Born, raised and educated in Brockton, he was a son of the late Arthur and Florence (Pleau) Ek. Ken graduated from Brockton High in 1959 and enlisted in the military as a member of the United States Air Force. He went on to work for Plymouth County Mosquito Control and retired after a 32 year career as a Biological Technician at the age of 60.
Ken's passion was fishing, whether he was taking his boat out on the lakes or ice fishing with his friends. Another passion was being a big Boston sports fan and diehard Red Sox fan who rarely missed watching a game. He enjoyed vacationing yearly in Maine and Florida. Ken’s happy times were spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow into young adults.
Ken is survived by his high school sweetheart of 56 years Barbara J. (Dew) Ek; loving father of Ron Ek and his wife Ginny of Skowhegan, ME and Jim and his wife Rhonda of East Bridgewater; his grandchildren Steven, Tori, Liz and Ryan; his brother, Richard N. Ek and his wife Bette of Horseheads, NY; his niece Kirsten Ek of Avon, CT and nephew Derrick Ek of Horseheads, NY.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton, on Friday August 10, from 4-6 PM. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Please consider donations in Ken’s name to The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, West 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
