Obituary


Richard A. McGlynn a lifelong Medford resident passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 5, 2018.
Born in Medford, he was the son of the late Anthony and the late Catherine (McCormack) McGlynn. He served in the US Army from 1954-1957 and was a Veteran of the Korean War.

He served the Medford Community as a Police Officer from 1958 until 1981. Richard retired as a Detective Sergeant after surviving a triple gunshot wound while on duty May 2,1981.

He married the love of his life Elizabeth A. “Betty” DeWolfe on June 27,1959. During their 59 year romance they welcomed 8 Children, Sheila Quinn of Medford, Stephen McGlynn and his wife Michele of Medford, Nancy Memmolo and her late husband Edward Jr. of Malden, Caroline McGlynn of Melrose, Susan Callahan and her husband Shawn of Medford, Pamela Bredberg and her husband Carl of Westborough, Brenda Page and her husband Todd of Medford, David McGlynn and his wife Jennifer of Medford. He was a proud, loving Grandfather of Shauna, Jonathan, Michael, Patrick, Chiarina, Paige, Christopher, Haley, Linda Lee, Jolene, Brendan, Chelsea, Colby, Elizabeth, Colleen, Adam, Samantha, Emma, and Devon. Doting Great Grandfather of Skyla, Maggie and Liam. Brother of Jacqueline Raimo and her late husband Frank, Maureen McGillicuddy and her husband Gene, the late Claire Valente and her late husband James, the late John "Jack" McGlynn and his late wife Helen. Also survived by many cherished In-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

His greatest passion was spending time with family and friends in Wells, Maine and Naples, Florida. He loved golf, dining out, jet engine bon fires, a fine glass of merlot and coffee frappes. With 19 Grandchildren, he also took great joy in attending numerous birthday parties, christenings, confirmations, weddings, graduations, sporting events, concerts and plays. Richard’s Children and Grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. His legacy of a kind and generous spirit, strong faith, passion for sports and zest for life will live on thru them.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Thursday, August 9th, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with Military Honors and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Richard's memory to the Hallmark Health VNA & Hospice 178 Savin St., Malden, MA 02148.
