Gordon Lee Burgess, Sr., 75, of Tifton passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Terrell Roberts officiating. Mr. Burgess will be laid to rest at Enigma Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 8, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born May 8, 1943 in Ty Ty (Worth County), Mr. Burgess was the son of the late Lonnie Emmett Burgess and Alberta Frances Parker Burgess. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Hall Burgess; and one sister, Lucille Mathews. Before retiring, he had worked for Short and Paulk Supply Company for 40 years. He was a member of Tift Avenue Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Burgess is survived by one son, Gordon “Lee” Burgess Jr. of Tifton; one daughter, Sandra McCrimmon of Tifton; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jimmy D. and Nell Burgess, Hilton and Betty Sue Burgess and John F. Burgess, all of Tifton and Grady Burgess of Columbus; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Latrelle and John Cone of Tifton and Sherry and Rob Worth of Eustis, Florida; a brother-in-law, Ray Mathews of Enigma; four grandchildren, Gordon Lee “Trip” Burgess III, Taylor Brittany Burgess, Shane Richard Scott and Melissa Ann Scott; two great-grandsons, Blake Lovett and James Lovett; and a very special friend, who was considered part of the family, Peggy Storey of Tifton.
