O’BRIEN, Gary J. of Winthrop, passed away on August 4, 2018. He was 66 years old. Born in Birmingham, England, he was the son of Bridget M. (Darby) O’Brien of Winthrop and the late Patrick T. O’Brien. Dear brother of Raymond C. O’Brien and his wife Janet and Laraine P. Mitchell and her husband Grant, all of Winthrop. Loving uncle of Thomas O’Brien, Julia Walters, Patrick O’Brien, Richard O’Brien and Cherie Petruccelli. Funeral from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. Winthrop on Thursday, August 9, at 9am. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited. Cremation to follow will be private. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Gary was employed as a painter and was a member of Local Painters Union #35. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed boating, diving, camping and riding his motorcycle.
