Richard E. Smith

Standish, Maine - Richard E. Smith, 79, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 3, 2018 at The Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 18th, 1939 in Bar Mills, Maine. He was the youngest son of Maud and Ellsworth Smith. He graduated from Buxton High School.

He finished his career at Nichols where he worked for over 20 years before his retirement in 2002 due to failing health.

Richard “Dick” loved nature. He enjoyed hunting, feeding the birds, and boating on his pontoon boat and observing the loons at Watchic Lake. He loved working in the yard, on the road with his tractor and always loved helping his neighbors on Hi-Vu Drive and most recently on Bonny Eagle Pond Road in Standish. He especially loved his Wednesdays, helping out At Saint Anne’s senior luncheons.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister Nancy Smith Burt.

He is survived by his daughter Apryl Smith of Waterboro, 3 grandchildren Ashleigh Cloutier of Farmington , Destiny and Brandon Pecoraro and 2 great grandchildren Bentley and Boston who saw his final smile.

Other members of his family include a brother Robert Smith and wife Patricia of Brunswick, brother in law Ken Burt and wife Elaine, 6 nieces and nephews and a special nephew, David Burt and his wife Anna.

He is also survived by his loving partner of over 25 years , Blanche Harriman and her 2 daughters Linda Underwood (husband Frank) and Pam Belanger (husband Richard).

Services

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 13 at 3:00pm at South Buxton (Tory Hill) Cemetery in Buxton.

If desired, memorials in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society or The Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.

Arrangements are with Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service, Buxton.
