Obituary

Betty Worsley Barnes, 86, of Tifton passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Maple Court Assisted Living in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Steve Hood officiating. Mrs. Barnes will be laid to rest at Turner Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Enigma. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 4, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Barnes’ grandchildren and Junior Horton will serve as pallbearers.

Born June 8, 1932 in Miller County, Mrs. Barnes was the daughter of the late Douglas Worsley and Mammie Newberry Worsley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leon Alfred Barnes; and one son, Stephen Mark Barnes. Before retiring, she was a Program Assistant for the United States Department of Agriculture and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Tifton. She and her husband, Leon, were the owners and operators of the old Five Bridges Seafood Restaurant on Ferry Lake Road.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Sara Barnes of Mableton, Britt Barnes of Monticello, Florida and Craig and Brenda Barnes of Tifton; one daughter, Kay English of Thomson; a daughter-in-law, wife of deceased son, Belinda Barnes of Chattanooga, Tennessee; eight brothers, Talmadge Worsley and Edgar “Buddy” Worsley, both of Colquitt, Jimmy Worsley of Arlington, Henry Worsley of Colquitt, Herman Worsley of Delhi, Louisiana, Steve Worsley of Columbus, Roger Worsley of Colquitt and Wayne Worsley of Monroe, Louisiana; two sisters, Gertrude Roberts of Colquitt and Brenda Mayhem of Woodstock; and seven grandchildren, Brandon English, Korey Barnes, Amanda Barnes, Dallas Barnes, Jason English, Austin Barnes and Sophia Barnes.
