Obituary

OLD ORCHARD BEACH- Mark Christopher MacVane, 61 of Old Orchard Beach passed away surrounded by family on Saturday July 28th. He battled many illnesses in his life including 2 rounds of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, bacterial meningitis and a heart attack. It was a brief battle with leukemia that claimed his life. Mark worked for the south Portland school department as a custodian in his earlier career before working at Hutchins Trucking for 30+ years. He drove trucks for Matheson until he retired in 2014. Mark was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and spent a lot of his time getting ready to go hunting or fishing working on his canoes or cleaning his guns. He also was a lover of animals and always had a dog by his side, whether it was Abby, Molly or most recently, Gus. Despite his many jobs and love for animals, Mark was tailor made to be a grandfather. His greatest joy in recent years was the many additions of little feet to the family. In true grandparent style, he enjoyed playing with them, babysitting them and spoiling them with all the sugary treats he could. He always talked about how important they were to him and his love for them was undeniable. He would share the hundreds of pictures and videos he had on his phone to everyone from the bank teller to the neighbors.

Mark is predeceased by his mother and father, Doris and Sonny MacVane, his uncle, Richard Alexander.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 40 years, Rita MacVane. His children, whom he would do anything for, Christopher MacVane, Annmarie Marshall and William MacVane. His son and daughter in law Michelle MacVane and Paul Marshall. His Sister and brother in law Dave and Pat Greenlaw. Nieces, Michelle Belanger and Jennifer Evans and their spouses, Mark Belanger and Fred Evans. Also, his true pride and joys, his granddaughters Allison and Liv Marshall and his grand nephews Oliver Belanger and Kamari and Kordell Evans. He is also survived by his aunt Joyce Alexander and many other family and friends.

He will truly be missed and loved always.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday August 2nd from 4-7 pm at The Point , 345 Clarks Pond Parkway in South Portland.
