Albert R. “Al” Lewis, 92, a lifelong Franklin resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He is the beloved husband of 62 years to Claire A. (Bardol) Lewis.
Born in Verona, NJ, he was the son of the late Albert R. and Mary (Doyle) Lewis. He proudly joined the United States Navy and served for 21 years during WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War earning his ranking of Gunner’s Mate Chief Petty Officer. He then retired from the Navy in 1963 and was employed as a mechanic for the Department of Public Works in Franklin for 30 years. Mr. Lewis also owned and operated B&L Mower Services out his home for over 50 years.
Al enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, gardening, reading, working out in his garage and was especially proud of his perfectly maintained lawn. Most important to him though, was the amount of love he had for his family.
Mr. Lewis was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Fleet Reserve Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Albert G. Lewis and his wife Diana, of Franklin, Daniel J. Lewis of Franklin, and Steven E. Lewis and his wife Nina, of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Brenna, Kendall, Maxwell, Brody, Stevie Jane, Zachary, and Casey Lewis all of Franklin; his cousin, Mary Sullivan of Milton; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his sister Mary Lewis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday, August 3rd, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass at 10AM in St. Jude Church 86 Main St. Norfolk, MA. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Franklin.
